About this trip
Surfers in Taghazout see the ocean at dawn most mornings. This is the same hour from a different vantage point. You rise off an open field inland and look back at the whole Souss Valley, with the coast you know on one side and the Atlas on the other.
The pickup is the easy part. Taghazout is a small village, so we collect you from your guesthouse or surf camp and we are on the road within a few minutes, heading inland while it is still dark. Guests in Tamraght and Agadir join the same run. At the field the pilot and crew are getting the balloon ready. You watch it fill and stand up, listen to the safety briefing, and then step into the basket with the other passengers.
Once you are up, everything goes quiet. The burner fires in short bursts to hold your height, and between those you hear nothing but the wind. Your pilot follows the breeze across the valley, pointing out the villages, the dry riverbeds and the hills. The flight lasts around an hour and ends with a gentle landing in open ground. Breakfast and a glass of sparkling wine follow, along with your flight certificate. We fly every day of the year when conditions allow, so bring a warm layer for the field.
