The experience
What to expect
There are dozens of surf schools along this coast for a reason. The waves arrive small, slow and predictable, the bottom is sand rather than reef, and the water stays mild for most of the year. Nobody is going to drown on their first morning here.
Your instructor has taught hundreds of first-timers and knows exactly where to put you. The beach part covers lying on the board, paddling, the pop-up and which way to look. Once you are in, they stand in the shallows and tell you which wave to take.
It is harder work than it looks. Your shoulders will ache from paddling and you will be knocked about a bit. Almost everyone gets upright at least once, and nobody cares if you do not.

How your session runs
Pick-up at your door
We collect you from your hotel, guesthouse or surf camp in Taghazout, Tamraght or Agadir and drive to the best beach for the conditions.
Technique on the beach
The instructor walks you through paddling, the pop-up, your stance and the safety rules before you touch the water.
Coaching in the water
In you go with your instructor, who picks the right waves and calls them as they arrive.
Ride back
You dry off and change, and we drop you back where we found you.

Yes, that is exactly who this is for. The instructor begins on the sand and stays with you in the water.
Do I need to bring my own board?
No. A surfboard and wetsuit are included. Just bring swimwear, a towel and sun cream.
How long does the lesson last?
Around 2.5 hours with the transfers, of which about 1.5 to 2 hours is spent in the water.
Can I stand up on the first day?
Most first-timers manage it a few times. The coast around Taghazout is one of the easier places to learn.
Do I need to be a confident swimmer?
You need to be able to swim and be happy in the water. Beginners stay in the shallows, but basic swimming is essential.
