The experience
About this trip
Morocco has been making wine since the Roman era and almost nobody who visits Agadir knows there is a cellar an hour from their hotel. This trip takes you to a working estate in theChaouia hills, where the vines run down to the oued and the harvest still happens by hand in September.
You are met at the gate by the estate's guide, who walks you through the rows — Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and a local co-operative blend you will not find exported — then down into the barrel hall and the bottle store. The conversation covers pruning, the harvest calendar, why the Atlas blocks the rain and how the cellar stays cool without air conditioning.
The tasting is seated, four wines, with bread and local olive oil on the side; the guide talks you through what you are drinking and what to look for on the nose. Afterward lunch is served at the domaine's restaurant — a simple Moroccan-French plate with, naturally, a glass of the house white. Back in Agadir by 15:30.

- Something smart-casual; estates frown on beachwear

- Water in the car for the drive back
Know before you go
- You must be 18 or over to take part in the tasting. Under-18s can join as observers; we deduct 150 MAD from their price.
- Non-drinkers are welcome — a grape-juice and soft-drink flight replaces the tasting at the same price.
- Do not plan anything demanding after lunch; the pours are generous.
- Estate visits shift with the season — during harvest the guide may spend part of the tour with the pickers.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a real winery near Agadir?
Yes — estates in the Chaouia and Haha hills are within an hour of the city. We visit a working domaine, not a shop with a tasting counter.
What wines do they make?
Mostly Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault reds, plus a local white. The exact flight changes with what is in bottle.
Do I have to be 18?
Yes for the tasting. Under-18s can come along as observers at a reduced price.
Is lunch included?
Yes, a full lunch at the domaine restaurant is in the price.
Can I buy wine to take home?
The cellar shop is open at the end of the tour. We can hold bottles in the vehicle and drop them at your hotel.
