The experience
About this trip
This is the walking version of the valley trip. Where our Paradise Valley day gives you the drive and the swimming, this one puts the walking first: you go down into the gorge on foot with a guide and take your time getting through it.
The water runs in the bed of the valley for most of the year, which is why there are palms at all, and it has cut pools into the rock that stay cold even when the coast is hot. You pass them, climb over a little, and stop where it is worth stopping.
There is a village on the way where tea is usually offered, and the walk ends back at the vehicle. Plan on about five hours including the drive, and wear shoes you do not mind getting dusty.

Frequently asked questions
How far do we walk?
A few kilometres down through the gorge and back, at an easy pace with stops. Nothing steep, but the ground is rocky and uneven.
How is this different from the Paradise Valley trip?
This one is built around the walking. The Paradise Valley day covers more ground by road and gives you longer in the water; this one spends its time on foot in the gorge.
Can we swim?
Yes, where the pools are deep enough. How much water there is depends on the season, so bring swimwear and see what you find.
Is lunch included?
No. Bring snacks, or buy something in the village. Water is worth carrying.
What shoes do I need?
Something with grip that can get wet. Trainers are fine; flip-flops are not.
Is it suitable for children?
For steady walkers, yes. Very young children will need carrying in places.
