About this trip
Tafraout sits about 180 km from Agadir, in a bowl of the Ameln valley ringed by pink granite. The rock changes colour through the day, and the villages below it are built from the same stone, so everything looks of a piece. It is a long drive and we do not pretend otherwise, but the road climbs into the Anti-Atlas and the views earn the distance.
We leave early and stop for photographs along the way, seven or eight times across the morning. Once in Tafraout you get free time to walk, look through the small shops and take in the landscape at your own pace. Lunch is in a local restaurant.
The way back runs over the Kerdous pass at 1,100 metres, then drops to Tiznit. Tiznit is a walled town with five kilometres of ramparts and eight gates, and its medina is known for silver. You have time for the silver souk and the ramparts before the last stretch north to Agadir.

We collect you in Agadir, Taghazout or Tamraght and head south-east toward the Anti-Atlas.

The road climbs and we stop for photographs as the landscape opens up.

Arrival in the Ameln valley, ringed by pink granite. Time to walk and look around.

A Moroccan meal at a local restaurant in town.
14:30 Kerdous pass
The return route climbs to 1,100 metres before dropping toward the coast.
16:00 Tiznit
The walled town: ramparts, gates and the silver souk in the medina.

The drive north, ending with drop-off at your hotel.
