Doing Marrakech in a day from Agadir means fourteen hours in a vehicle. Splitting it over two, with a night in the middle, makes both cities worth the drive, and Essaouira sits roughly halfway along the road.
Day one goes west to Essaouira. The medina is white and blue inside its sea wall, the port is still working, and the whole place is slower than Marrakech. You have the afternoon there, then drive on to Marrakech to sleep.
Day two is the red city: the Koutoubia minaret, the Menara gardens, the Bahia palace, and Jemaa el-Fnaa, where the storytellers, snake charmers and acrobats are. Then the souks, and the drive back to Agadir. Breakfast and the night in the hotel are included.
