About this trip
This is the desert without the overnight: one long day in a 4x4 that starts on the sand dunes east of Agadir and ends past the Souss estuary. The vehicle picks you up at 08:20 and the first act is dune bashing — controlled runs up and over the ridges of the Agadir desert, with time on top for photographs.
From the dunes the route runs south to Sidi R'bat, a wild beach where the fishermen still keep their boats above the tide line and cut caves into the soft cliff for storage. Shells, empty sand, Atlantic swell. Then the Massa river near Souss-Massa National Park — with luck you see the migrating birds the park was created to protect; with certainty you see the oyster-fisher huts and the changing colour of the water.
After that a rally track across open sand toward the Atlas foothills, the Youssef Ben Tachafine dam, and lunch cooked at a local house — tagine and couscous, vegetarian version on request, included. Panorama stop on the ridge over the plain, then back into Agadir for about 17:00.

Know before you go
- The dune bashing is spirited. Anyone pregnant, with back or neck problems, or recovering from surgery should tell the driver to take it easy or skip that section.
- Not suitable for children under five.
- The beach at Sidi R'bat has no facilities — use the hotel facilities before departure.
- Birdlife at Massa varies by season; winter migration is the peak.

Is this a real desert?
It is the desert edge — true dunes, sand tracks and empty beaches, close enough to Agadir to do in a day without a night's drive.
Is lunch included?
Yes. A home-cooked tagine or couscous with fruit and mint tea.
How rough is the dune bashing?
It is exciting but controlled. Tell the driver if you want a calmer ride — they always oblige.
Can children come?
From five upwards, buckled in the middle row. Under-fives we do not take on the dunes.
Do we see camels?
Occasionally on the plain. The trip is built around the dunes, the coast and the river rather than an animal stop.
